Weekend Series Review 5/30-6/1

This was an interesting series and ultimately the bet hit, but I didn't see the offensive performance I wanted from the Giants in order to feel good about their June schedule.

Friday (Giants won, pick lost) Giants 2 - Marlins 0. The Giants put up a run in the 1st inning and never looked back, adding another run off Quantrill in the 4th inning. Janson Junk came in and pitched 4 scoreless innings of baseball, but the Marlins offense didn’t provide any help, being held to just 3 hits over 9 scoreless innings from 7 Giants pitchers.

Saturday (Giants lost, pick lost) Giants 0 - Marlins 1. Robbie Ray went 7 innings of 2 hit baseball, striking out 9 but giving up a run in the second inning damned the effort. Despite only 3 hits on the day, the Marlins came out with a win behind a combined scoreless effort by a rested bullpen.

Sunday (Giants won, pick lost) Giants 4 - Marlins 2. Sunday’s game had more production than the rest of the series combined, but outside of Jordan Hicks, the bullpens once again performed well. Weathers showed his volatility, striking out 7, but also leaving balls over the plate, including one against Luis Matos that determined the outcome. Birdsong pitched well for 5.1 innings, giving up one earned run and striking out 5.

Key stat from the series - Bullpen effort. The bullpens in this series were incredible, working almost completely unblemished for the whole weekend/ With back ends performing well, either of these teams can win a game with hitting present. Look fore the Giants to continue their trajectory and the Marlins to find ways to surprise good teams as the season pushes into June.
Giants -165 to win the series: WIN
