Weekend Series Review 6/13-6/15

The Los Angeles Dodgers successfully defended their home turf against the surging San Francisco Giants this past weekend, winning two of the three games. The Dodgers' offense came alive on Saturday and Sunday to secure the series victory and cover their hefty series price.

Friday (Giants won, pick won) Giants 6 - Dodgers 2.

This was not the marquee pitching matchup everyone hoped for. Logan Webb was masterful for the Giants, going 7 innings while allowing only two runs and striking out four. Yoshinobu Yamamoto played poorly for the Dodgers with 4 strikeouts over 4.2 innings, Giving up 5 earned runs. Wrobleski pitched the rest of the way, giving up another run in the process.

Saturday (Dodgers won, pick won) Dodgers 11 - Giants 5.

The Dodgers evened the series behind a vintage performance from Clayton Kershaw. He pitched 7 strong innings of no run baseball while the Dodgers' offense provided steady support. A key sacrifice fly from Will Smith and a home run from Shohei Ohtani paced the LA offense. The Giants' rookie starter, Landen Roupp, was absolutely outmatched and couldn't contain the powerful Dodgers lineup, taking the loss.

Sunday (Dodgers won, pick lost) Dodgers 5 - Giants 4.

Our hopes for a series upset were dashed on Sunday as the Dodgers' bats decided the rubber match. They got to Giants' starter Sean Hjelle (Kyle Harrison was traded before the game) for two runs early and while the Giants' offense showed some life, Dustin May did just enough for the Dodgers, and their bullpen held on to clinch the series win at home.

Key stat from the series - Starting Pitcher ERA. This was indeed the story. On Friday, Webb outdueled Yamamoto, but on Saturday and Sunday, however, the Dodgers got the better of the Giants' younger starters, proving that the team with the stronger starting pitching performance won each day. The Dodgers' starters ultimately outperformed the Giants' starters over the course of the weekend.

The Dodgers improve their record to 41-28, strengthening their hold on first place in the NL West. The Giants fall to 39-30 but remain firmly in the NL Wild Card picture.

Giants +175 to win the series: LOSS
