Weekend Series Review 5/23-5/25
Back to missing huge on these weekend series picks! The Blue Jays underperformed and fell to 4th place in the AL East behind poor offensive play and a statement game from the Rays on Sunday.
Friday (Blue Jays lost, pick won) Blue Jays 1 - Rays 3. The Rays got to Lauer in the 3rd and 4th inning and that was enough to win the game. RBIs from Lowe and Mead and 6 scoreless innings from Rasmussen set the tone for the weekend.
Saturday (Blue Jays lost, pick lost) Blue Jays 1 - Rays 3. Aranda and Diaz were indeed kept in check by Berrios, held hitless against him, but Caminero went yard with Lowe and Lowe on base in the 1st and the Blue Jays would never threaten that lead. Hitless games from Bichette, Varsho, and Springer helped ensure that the Blue Jays did nothing of substance except a solo shot from Guerrero in the 6th.
Sunday (Blue Jays lost, pick lost.) Blue Jays 0 - Rays 13. Well, Sunday was a thing that happened. 13 runs on 15 hits for the Rays. Bassitt was completely out of sorts and was shelled in the 5th, giving up 5 runs and 9 hits total in the game, not the least of which was a 2 run shot in the 1st inning which would have beaten the Blue Jays in every game of the weekend. Pepiot had a solid game, only giving up 3 hits and striking out 5 over 7 scoreless innings.
Key stat from the series - Run Support. The Blue Jays scored 2 runs in 3 games behind just 14 hits. It's really hard to win games with no production.
Toronto +125 to win the series: LOSS
