Weekend Series Review 5/16-5/18

The Tigers took 2 of 3 to win the series and push their MLB leading record to 31-16 on the season. The Tigers are now 5 games up in the AL Central and the Blue Jays are two games under .500.

Friday (Tigers won, pick won) Tigers 5 - Blue Jays 4. Friday was the highest scoring game of the series and the Tigers put 4 runs on Bowden Francis, who only went 4.2 innings. Greene and McKinstry both went yard off the starter and the Tigers never trailed in this one.

Saturday (Tigers lost, pick lost) Tigers 1 - Blue Jays 2. Spencer Torkelson homered in the 2nd inning and that accounted for all of the Tigers offense for the game. Eric Lauer pulled the spot start for the Blue Jays and pitched 3 innings of 1 run ball before being followed by 5 other pitchers who gave up 1 hit combined. Reese Olson did indeed bounce back and pitched six scoreless innings, actually leaving the game with the lead before settling for a no decision.

Sunday (Tigers won, pick lost) Tigers 3 - Blue Jays 2. No home run from Carpenter, but the Tigers did enough to secure the win and the series on Sunday. Jackson Jobe pitched 6 innings of 2 run ball, dueling with Braxton Berrios throughout the day. Fluharty got himself into trouble and took the loss with a walk and a hit in the 7th.

Key stat from the series - Top of the Order hits. These teams, and these games went the way of their top hitters. With few runs scored over the Saturday and Sunday games, clutch hitting with runners in scoring position determined the outcomes.
Detroit -125 to win the series: WIN
